Celebrating curiosity for British Science Week

We celebrated British Science Week 2026 with a full programme of activities designed to spark curiosity and encourage pupils to think like real scientists. This year’s theme, Curiosity: what’s your question?, inspired children across the school to investigate the world around them through questioning, exploration and hands‑on discovery.

Throughout the week, every year group took part in scientific investigations that encouraged pupils to observe closely, make predictions and test ideas. These practical activities helped pupils understand how curiosity drives scientific thinking and supported them in developing their skills as young investigators.

A highlight of the week was the school’s robot design challenge. Pupils were asked to create an invention that could help solve a real‑world problem, drawing on creativity as well as scientific understanding. Each class submitted entries and the winning designs will now be shared with Lionheart Science Leaders who will select an overall winner. The project not only encouraged imaginative thinking but also helped children recognise how science and engineering can make a positive difference.

Classes also joined a BBC Live Lesson as part of the national celebrations, giving pupils the chance to take part in fun science activities alongside schools across the country. This helped pupils see themselves as part of a wider scientific community.

Every class enjoyed a special science workshop that brought excitement and energy to the week. These sessions were filled with hands‑on demonstrations that encouraged pupils to ask questions and explore how things work.

The week provided an engaging and memorable way for  our young scientists to deepen their scientific understanding and channel their enthusiasm for the subject!
