Year 6's Chocolate Filled Adventure to Cadbury World
On Tuesday 4th November, Year 6 embarked on an exciting educational journey to Cadbury World, where chocolate and history came together in the most delicious way!The highlight of the day was a workshop all about cocoa and discovered its vital role in ancient civilizations. The children were introduced to the fascinating Maya way of life, learning how this ancient society revered cocoa not just as food, but as currency and a sacred gift.
One of the most memorable (and surprising) moments was discovering what the Maya did to their babies; they would gently press their heads to shape them, believing it was a sign of beauty and status! The children were glad they were born in England.
We then travelled (virtually) to the great city of Chichen Itza, where the children were amazed by the incredible architecture, including the famous pyramid El Castillo. We found out that when someone claps at the base of the pyramid, the echo that comes back from the temple at the top sounds remarkably like the chirp of a quetzal bird - a sacred animal in Maya culture. What an incredible acoustic phenomenon! The workshop brought history to life as some of the children dressed up as different members of Maya society (priests, farmers and emperors) to understand their roles and their clothing.
The trip was not only educational but also full of fun and curiosity. It sparked lots of questions and excitement about ancient cultures, and of course, there was plenty of chocolate to enjoy too!
